Yes, your macintosh computer is a UNIX based machine. Therefore it has the “supreme” user called root. But by default it’s not enabled. To enable it, all you have to do is reset it’s password.

How? very easy. Since you are most likely an administrator on your computer, you have access to do this. All you have to do is to “tell” your computer that you are “the boss”

Open a terminal window and type:

sudo passwd root

Next thing, you will have to authenticate yourself. So enter your own password. After you enter your password successfully, you are prompted to provide a new password for your “root” user. Just enter anything twice and… off you go.

Easy, huh?

I spent hours trying to get my terminal to show nice colors like most of the Linux terminals out there.
Many experienced linux gurus had different solutions; some complicated, some very complicated.
Looks like nobody bother to read the man pages for ‘ls‘
I did and the answer to the puzzle is very simple: Instead of using ls, you can use ls -G and you get your pretty colors
But be smart and use an alias. Instead of typing all the time ls -G you can just make an alias with the command:
alias ls='ls -G'

Better still: instead of doing this every time you log in, just put the command in your ~/.bash_profile file.

Long past are the days when your access in having a presence on the internet was only a desire or something for “others”. Nowadays with the low prices and the generous offers, you have the chance to be your own master on the internet, so to speak. I don’t use Vista and I hope I’ll never have to. I’m a MAC guy and I’m happy.

But since I’m also a computer guy, people come to me and ask for help, regardless of the operating system.

My last one was a Vista laptop. The guy could not get past the registration page. I tried to look for a hack and somehow disable the shit, but it just won’t allow you to! All the hacks out there, are outdated. So if you have the same problem, save yourself time and call Microsoft to activate your copy of Vista. Better still: buy a MAC!
